Treatment

What to expect at your appointment

Each treatment is bespoke, being tailored to your individual needs and requirements.

Massage
Soft Tissue Therapy, Remedial & Sports Massage

Aimed at those with ongoing pain.  Perhaps you have an old injury that still niggles? Or a pain for no particular reason that hinders your normal daily activities? These sessions are designed to find the source of the problem and treat it. We start with an in-depth discussion, followed by assessment and testing. Treatment follows which includes advanced soft tissue therapy techniques, but is dependent on the findings of the assessments and testing. Rehabilitation exercises are prescribed to do at home.

Massage
Maintenance Massage and Treatment

For those who don't need the full works in identifying a problem area, but just need a treatment to keep everything running as it should. Ideal for anybody. Perhaps you do a lot of driving or sitting at a desk and have some muscle tightness? Maybe you are an athlete looking for maintenance or pre and post event massage? Massage, including deep tissue, and advanced soft tissue techniques are used during these appointments. Each treatment is different, using techniques tailored to your requirements. Exercises and stretching to do at home may be suggested.

Back Massage
Massage for Relaxation and Reducing Stress

Aimed at those who just want a general relaxing massage. Perhaps you have had a hard week and those shoulders could do with some gentle loosening out, or maybe you are dealing with stress and need some time out to be able to relax. Massage really can help us unwind, connecting with the nervous system to help calm the body and mind, melting away tension and stress. These appointments use techniques that are generally gentler, but are tailored to what you would like.

FAQs

Is sports massage just for athletes?

No, the term sports massage simply differentiates this kind of massage from other types such as holistic or Swedish. It doesn't mean it's just for sports persons, it can be for anyone with aches and pains that need treating. Sports massage has developed significantly over the years, and is more than just massage. It is frequently (and probably more accurately) called Soft Tissue Therapy.

What does a soft tissue therapy treatment and remedial & sports massage entail?

The first appointment always starts with detailed history-taking before progressing to assessment. Treatment follows which includes a range of advanced soft tissue technique. Each appointment is bespoke and dependant on your needs.

What should I wear?

Loose-fitting stretchy shorts and a vest-style T-shirt are ideal for assessment and testing. You may need to undress further for treatment but that will be dependent on the treatment required. Briefs/pants must always be kept on please. Where further undressing is required, towels and/or a drape are used for your modesty.  Much of the treatment I do can be performed through clothing .

Is a remedial and sports massage painful?

It's really important to let me know if something is too painful, as it can hinder the effectiveness of the treatment. It's not a test of how much pain you can bear! Some techniques can be a bit uncomfortable though. Usually clients report feeling a good stretching feeling or 'good pain'. We don't want bad pain!

How long is an appointment?

First appointments take an hour or just a little over. Subsequent appointments for the same problem take 50 minutes.

Are the massage oils and waxes you use vegan?

Yes, I use Songbird vegan liquiwax and massage wax, which are both vegan and cruelty-free.

Do you take card payment?

Yes, I take cards and cash.

Do you sell gift certificates?

Yes, vouchers are available to buy as a gift for someone.

What about Covid precautions?

It isn't necessary to wear a mask at the moment, according to government guidelines. However, if you are vulnerable or protecting a vulnerable person and would prefer me to wear a mask then please let me know.

There is turnaround time allocated between appointments to allow for cleaning and changing couch linens.

If you have Covid, or a member of your household has Covid, please do not attend your appointment. Please let me know as soon as you are able though. You won't be charged for a missed appointment (I would lose more if I am off sick with Covid).  It is more important to keep each other safe and well.

Do I need to book an appointment or can I just turn up?

All appointments need to be booked beforehand please, both at my Yorkley clinic and at TLS SMART. Please see above for contact details..

What are your terms for missed appointments?

To try to ensure the smooth and fair running of the clinic, missed appointments, whatever the reason, without notifying me beforehand are charged at the full appointment rate.  .
